Other programs didn't work out. Will my child fit in here?
Parents ask Sabumnim Wilt this question every year. This book is his answer. Written from more than 25 years on the mat, it shows coaches how to teach children with autism, ADHD, and sensory differences well, without special degrees and without giving up the discipline that makes martial arts powerful. And it shows parents how to help their child succeed, at the dojang and at home.
Inside, you'll learn how to
- Run a calm, successful first class
- Teach techniques visually, one step at a time
- Use the Calm Warrior routine to prevent meltdowns
- Respond safely when a meltdown happens
- Set up a sensory-friendly dojang
- Track progress with the Belt Bridge stripe system
The Calm Warrior routine
- 1Stop.
- 2Stance.
- 3Breathe.
- 4Count.
- 5Check.
Five steps built from taekwondo's own tools (ready stance, breathing, and counting in Korean) that children can use to calm their bodies anywhere: on the mat, at school, and at home.
